African Odyssey at the BFI Southbank
So season one of Empire is finished, finito, over with and I am sitting here asking myself what am I going to watch now? Those of you in the same boat as me, sorry to say, I do not have the answer. After Empire how can we possibly go back to our most loved/hated ratchet shows? After searching and failing to find something to fill my Thursday Evening Empire slot with, I did find this….African Odysseys at the BFI (British Film Institute), Southbank.
The African Odyssey programme has been running for over 7 years, so I am quite embarrassed to admit I have only just found out about it. The programme promotes films showcasing African and world diasporas on a monthly basis. The programme is a positive reminder that cinema is not solely a westernised platform and that African diasporas and culture is being recognised.
Whilst I’m rather late and it seems as though the most recent segment was from December 2014- March 2015. It looks as though it will be continuing on till April, so do not miss the next UK Premiere: Legends of Ska: Cool and Copasetic + panel discussion. Let us know what you think!
