Chiwetel Ejiofor takes Z for Zachariah to Sundance
It’s that time of year again. That time where filmmakers and actors big and small, from all over the word, gather in Utah, USA for the Sundance Film Festival. Trying to get you big break? Aiming to claw back some credibility? Had some free time and decided to shoot an indie pic? Sundance films run the gamut of all these situations and more (the only thing you won’t see is anything big budget).
The annual ‘indie’ film festival ran by Robert Redford is in full swing and there seems to one film on everyone’s lips ‘Z for Zachariah’. Based on the novel of the same name by Robert C. O’Brien, stars Margot Robbie, Chris Pine and Briton Chiwetel Ejiofor, in a near-future dystopia where an unexplained catastrophe has wiped out most of civilisation.
Pre-Fest it had the most buzz, probably due to its stacked cast. However reviews out of the fest have been decidedly mixed. Ejiofor though is consistently praised (as usual), with most counting this as another gripping performance to add to his resume.
Better news for Ejiofor fans is the rumours that he has been approached for a leading role in Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange. No clue yet as to who he would play but that latest Marvel tentpole looks to be an all Brit affair as Benedict Cumberbatch has already signed on to play the titular hero.
So, mixed reviews at Sundance and lead role in blockbuster. Just another day in Hollywood for home-grown movie star Chiwetel Ejiofor.
